We are driven and challenged to achieve the collective ambitions of the region, through scrutiny and advocacy by an experienced board of Trustees, Patrons and Ambassadors who bring a diverse range of skills and expertise to the organisation.
Anne Boyd FRSA, FRSPH
Anne is the award-winning Chief Executive of Active Cheshire; the lead body for physical activity and sport in the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. She is born and bred in Cheshire where she lives with her 3 grown-up children. She has 20+ years of experience spanning public, private and voluntary sectors having held leadership positions within Sport England, NWDA, Local Government and her own award-winning business, which secured her a seat on a Prime-Ministerial think tank. Anne is a passionate contributor to her home county, donating her time to the British Red Cross as Vice-President , to Cheshire and Warrington LEP as a member of the Oversight and Scrutiny Committee and to the West Cheshire Poverty Truth Commission as a Commissioner. She is also a member of the Cheshire & Merseyside STP Clinical Advisory Group seeking to transform health services. Anne is extremely well networked as an active member of the Global Leaders Alumni and of HEPA Europe. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Royal Society of Public Health and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Anne is passionate about tackling inequality and has a particular interest in the improvement of mental health services. She is a supporter of women in business.
Local Area Team Lead and Deputy CEO
Adam is responsible for leading our area based teams, working hard to make a difference to physical inactivity through our Active Kids and Active Workplace services. In addition, Adam works with strategic partners across the footprint of Cheshire and Warrington, specifically our Local Authority partners, in support of our collective ambition to embed physical activity into all aspects of everyday life. Having worked in the sector for almost a decade, Adam brings a wealth of experience to the organisation, and has led on a number of high profile initiatives and projects both organisationally, and with partners. As a resident of Cheshire, Adam is passionate about the difference we and our partners can make through the integration of small daily activity habits. He even welcomed Teddy the dog to his family to help him with his daily walking routine!
Senior Physical Activity Advisor (Cheshire East)
Nont is the Senior Physical Activity Advisor for Cheshire East at Active Cheshire. He brings a wealth of experience in market, consumer and social research which places him to approach the issue of inactivity through understanding of human behaviours, societal and cultural trends. Nont led on several high profile research which led to publication and showcasing at national and international platforms. Nont brings 5+ years of experience of working within the industry. As well as his knowledge and experience, Nont brings with him an abundance of energy, drive and enthusiasm. Born and raised in Thailand, Nont moved to the U.K. when he was 15 to join Liverpool F.C. Academy. Nont’s time at Liverpool was cut short due to a bad injury but he retained his passion and interest in physical activity and sport. Nont joined Active Cheshire as a volunteer in May 2013 and went on to secure his full-time position in September in 2013. He is passionate about creating opportunities for the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to lead healthy and active lifes. Nont’s world revolves around his family and friends, passion and interest in football and food! He is the designated chef for the office and can cook up a mean Thai Green Curry - as has done on several occasions!
Senior Physical Activity Advisor (Cheshire West)
Sarah is responsible for driving forward the work in Cheshire West and Chester, as a senior advisor. With an extensive background immersed in the voluntary sector, Sarah has over 14 years’ experience of supporting and developing opportunities for local residents. Born and bred in Ellesmere Port, Sarah has an invested interest in ensuring the residents of Cheshire West and Chester are well served and looked after. Sarah’s role primarily is to support local organisations to make a difference to physical inactivity through our Active Kids and Active Workplace services. Sarah is also responsible for maintaining our relationship with our Local Authority partners and supporting a whole host of stakeholders to embed physical activity into all aspects of everyday life. Sarah is an avid volunteer during her time outside of work and supports a variety of initiatives encouraging people to get active, understanding the challenges they face in taking that step to be active. Sarah is passionate about sport and physical activity and prides herself on supporting others to experience and try new things. She has a particular interest in disability sport and ensuring activities are inclusive and available to everyone. Sarah’s proudest achievements are her two young boys who keep her active every day and she loves being a Mum!
Organisational Development Officer
Mark is the Organisational Development Officer for Active Cheshire, a role that encompasses everything from day to day finances, IT and Comms management, payroll, policies and procedures, and legal obligations as a registered charity and limited company. The role also looks at ways the organisation can continually make improvements and efficiencies. Born in Salford, Mark took part in the Young Enterprise Scheme while at school where he first got a taste of business administration. While at college he tried his luck on the Manchester music scene, promoting the Reggae band Edward The Second at the famous Boardwalk, the location of Oasis’ first live performance in August 1991. This ultimately led him to playing in his own band at venues across Manchester, and working for Manchester City Council’s events team, working on visitor events, such as an outdoor ice-rink, Christmas Light’s Switch Ons and Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony. Mark’s gained some great experience over his career working in town centre management, market town regeneration and business start-up support. He has also spent 3 years self-employed working for a variety of business and private clients. Outside of work Mark plays the drums in a band, as well as building and managing the band’s website.
Marketing & Executive Communications
Eleanor is the Marketing & Executive Communications Coordinator for Active Cheshire. Eleanor is in charge of the social media accounts and collateral representing Active Cheshire. Eleanor also assists Fraser in events coordination for Active Cheshire and driving forward the brand identity. Eleanor is very keen to delight customers, ensuring that every experience is an exceptional one. Before Eleanor joined Active Cheshire, she gained 4+ years of experience in the private sector, having worked in a fast-paced Customer Service environment as well as her experience in Wellbeing/Sports Therapy. Eleanor is no fan of sports, but enjoys physical activity going to the gym at least 3 times a week. She loves to travel outside of the UK, from trying new foods and gaining different experiences, learning different cultures is a huge interest. Her favourite place in the world was Venice in Italy, known as “the floating city” it has no roads - just canals. Eleanor loves to listen to music, and will be going to her first festival in Leeds this year.
Sales & Marketing Manager
Fraser is the Sales & Marketing Manager for Active Cheshire. Fraser oversees the marketing department, managing all marketing for the organisation and activities within the marketing department. Assisted by Eleanor, together they head up marketing and events coordination for Active Cheshire and drive forward the brand identity and promotional campaigns. Creating campaigns to promote Active Cheshire’s message and overall strategy of embedding physical activity into all aspects of everyday life by 2040 in Cheshire and Warrington. As a team they liaise with external suppliers of marketing collateral and design. Growing up in Nottingham, Fraser moved to Reading to study War, Peace and International Relations BA at the University of Reading. Shortly after Fraser moved to London and worked as a Property Consultant for two years before joining the Active Cheshire team. Outside of work, Fraser is a keen martial arts fan having practiced the sport for many years and travelled to China to study in an academy. Fraser is also an avid Swansea City FC fan, regularly spending his weekends watching the games. Being an animal lover, his favourite place in Cheshire & Warrington is Chester Zoo.
Physical Activity Advisor (Warrington)
Ciaran is the Physical Activity Advisor for Warrington at Active Cheshire. She was originally born in Liverpool, before moving to Runcorn at the age of 4 and attended school in Frodsham. After Ciaran took time out from her career to see her way through all the local mums & tots groups, she worked in a hospice for 10 ½ years working as an events manager, before joining the Active Cheshire Team. During this time she proudly became the first person ever to close the Silver Jubilee Bridge for a Santa dash in 2012. Ciaran is Junior Head Secretary of Runcorn Linnets FC. During her time as head secretary, she increased the teams from 6 to 43 in 12 years. They boast the largest female section in the North West of England and have 16 female teams in single age groups. She is also a passionate Everton fan. A proud mum of two, Ciaran enjoys spending time with her family and walking her two dogs Dougie and Edna.
Project Management and Delivery Officer
Hayley is a Project Management and Delivery Officer for Active Cheshire. Working within the Local Area Team, she is involved with tackling inactivity through the Active Kids and Active Workplaces schemes as well as through various other projects. Hayley has always lived in the Cheshire area and is keen to help tackle physical inactivity in the area through the main pillars of the Active Cheshire Blueprint. Hayley has a Sport Science background completing and undergraduate BSc and postgraduate MSc at Manchester Metropolitan University and is currently working towards completing her PhD with Staffordshire University working with adolescent netball players. As a keen netball player herself, Hayley has a real passion for the sport playing for Warrington Town’s regional Premiership team, she supports Liverpool Football Club and in her spare time enjoys going to the local gym. Hayley is very family orientated and in her remaining spare time is a hobby baker, making celebration cakes for friends and family.
Impact and Innovation Officer
Matthew is the Impact and Innovation Officer at Active Cheshire. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Matthew moved to the UK when he was 16 for boarding school, before completing his BSc Psychology degree at the University of Leicester and his MSc Psychology of Sport and Exercise at the Leeds Beckett University. Matthew’s role at Active Cheshire involves working with the Local Area Team and evaluating the impact of the Pledges and workplans, ensuring each individual plan is working as effectively for the schools and workplaces as it can be. Matthew has been physically active his entire life, having represented Hong Kong in rugby union in all age grades up to U20s level and represented University of Leicester 1st team basketball as well. As a new resident to Cheshire, Matthew is excited to get to know the local area more and meeting more people living around Cheshire. Outside of physical activity and sports, Matthew loves to travel, with Japan being his favourite country to have visit!
Apprentice in Active Communities
Jonathan is on a 16 month apprenticeship with Active Cheshire which will involve working in all departments within Active Cheshire. He was born in Carlisle but has lived in Cheshire since the age of three. Jonathan wants to pursue a career in the charity sector after volunteering for different charities in Cheshire and sees the experience he will gain from his apprenticeship, as a big step towards his goal. Straight after college Jonathan worked as a client support advisor within a busy admin team, for a big online retailer. In his spare time he volunteers as an assistant leader at a local cub pack, assisting with weekly meetings and camps. Jonathan plays bass guitar for a local band, playing gigs around Cheshire, Stoke and Manchester and until recently was a member of a local drama club. Jonathan is also a big supporter of Manchester United - having had a season ticket for 12 years. He is a keen sports person, which has included horse riding, sailing, gymnastics and he regularly plays football.
Callum’s role is to ensure our research, insight and evidence base is up to date, relevant and embedded within the team. This involves elements of primary and secondary research, insight generation and training. Callum has worked in sport and physical activity for fifteen years moving from the field into the office. He has previously held roles at Sport England, the Rugby League and the FA and has been involved in sport and physical activity research projects across the country. Through this research and insight, the team are then better able to target products and services into the marketplace. Outside of work, Callum enjoys travel, football and rugby league.
Active Archie is Active Cheshire’s mascot and Strategic lead for Fun. Starting off working in finance, Archie quickly realised this was not his calling and decided to become the company mascot. He supports the whole team with projects and events, bringing energy and fun wherever he goes. He is particularly popular with the Active Kids schools he visits to deliver the Active Plans. He proudly boasts the self-proclaimed title of Best Mascot in the World. Archie is also a keen sports star, with long distance running being a regular family activity. His favourite film is the Lion King, after it inspired him as a child to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He now uses this same inspiration to encourage the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to get more Active. In his free time you can usually find Archie in Winsford Town Park playing with the PlayBox toys or in the stylists having a mane cut and blow.
