Active Cheshire’s fundraiser and family-fun day raised £5428.67 for the national charity, British Red Cross at Playfest.
On Saturday 12th May 2018, nearly 5000 people descended on Tatton Park for Playfest – an exciting day that inspired businesses, schools, families and the community to come together to compete, get active, and most importantly to play to raise vital funds for the British Red Cross.
The centrepiece of the event was the world’s longest inflatable obstacle course – at 1000ft long, the obstacle course was a worthy adversary for both the businesses who took part in the competition, and the community who challenged themselves.
Playfest was organized by Active Cheshire not only to raise funds for one of the nations best loved charities, but also to change the perspective that physical activity is a chore by making it fun – something that plays a key role in the sub-regional plan the ‘Blueprint to Tackle Physical Inactivity’.
Anne Boyd, CEO of Active Cheshire, said, “We’re so pleased that we have not only been able to encourage nearly 5000 people to be active and have fun while doing so, but also that Playfest raised so much for a charity close to all of our hearts.
“Over the past year, the British Red Cross has been very close to home in supporting those in crisis. We’re extremely proud to work alongside them and deliver such a fantastic event in aid of their work.
“Thank you to everyone who took part and helped us raise such a sizeable sum. We hope everyone involved enjoyed themselves and were reminded that being active doesn’t have to be boring, but in fact there are many fun and exciting ways we can be active on a daily basis.”
On Friday 22nd June, Active Cheshire were pleased to officially donate the funds raised at Playfest to the British Red Cross Cheshire President, Denis Dunn MBE JP DL.
Dennis had this to say about the day, “What an incredible event and gesture from the marvellous Active Cheshire team. Not only did they raise £5428.67 but they also raised the awareness of over 6000 people into the support of the British Red Cross for those in crisis.
“We also recruited new volunteers on the day. Thank you also to our Red Cross volunteers who were out in force to support the day, a very great day for Cheshire and the DO ONE THING! Initiative.”
Active Cheshire were pleased to also receive their own ‘Do One Thing’ certificate in recognition of their support as a Cheshire Advocate for the British Red Cross society. The British Red Cross campaign ‘Do One Thing’ encourages people to show the power of kindness.
