Anne Boyd, Chief Executive, Active Cheshire


Chief Executive

Anne is the award-winning Chief Executive of Active Cheshire; the lead body for physical activity and sport in the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. She is born and bred in Cheshire where she lives with her 3 grown-up children. She has 20+ years of experience spanning public, private and voluntary sectors having held leadership positions within Sport England, NWDA, Local Government and her own award-winning business, which secured her a seat on a Prime-Ministerial think tank. Anne is a passionate contributor to her home county, donating her time to the British Red Cross as Vice-President , to Cheshire and Warrington LEP as a member of the Oversight and Scrutiny Committee and to the West Cheshire Poverty Truth Commission as a Commissioner. She is also a member of the Cheshire & Merseyside STP Clinical Advisory Group seeking to transform health services. Anne is extremely well networked as an active member of the Global Leaders Alumni and of HEPA Europe. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Royal Society of Public Health and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Anne is passionate about tackling inequality and has a particular interest in the improvement of mental health services. She is a supporter of women in business.

Adam works with strategic partners in Cheshire East, working in partnership to support the growth in participation of physical activity across all age groups with a focus on Active Kids and Active Workplace, supported by David Acton. Adam is a lead member of staff for Active Design, as well as Organisation Development & Delivery functions across Active Cheshire, supported by Mark Bamford.

Duncan is Senior Partnership Manager at Active Cheshire, you may recognise him from the BBC One Show? He might be a proud Yorkshireman at heart but now living in and leading on Active Cheshire's work in the Cheshire West and Chester area, he is both well placed and passionate about championing his locality to benefit the health and wellbeing of other local residents. Duncan has been a leader of physical activity in the education sector for over 10 years and has a track record with Active Cheshire of creatively supporting and influencing cultural and curriculum change to help tackle inactivity. He has a diverse and rich background of professional experience including owning and running his own business and has worked internationally in the tourism industry. Duncan is a graduate of the Common Purpose programme for leaders and a Lean6 Sigma Green Belt. Outside of work Duncan is a proud husband and father, loves his dog, he's a massive rugby fan and partial to some good grub and a pint (all in moderation of course!)

Strategic Lead Mental Health

Nont is the Strategic Lead for Mental Health at Active Cheshire. He brings a wealth of experience in market, consumer and social research which places him to approach the issue of inactivity through understanding of human behaviours and societal and cultural trends. Nont led on several high profile research which led to publication and showcasing at national and international levels of Academia. Nont also brings 5+ years of experience of working within the industry. As well as his knowledge and experience, Nont brings with him an abundance of energy, drive and enthusiasm. Born and raised in Thailand, Nont moved to the U.K. when he was 15 to join Liverpool F.C. Academy. Nont’s time at Liverpool was cut short due to a bad injury. Realising he wasn’t going to make it as a professional footballer, Nont retained his passion and interest in physical activity and sport by acquiring a First Class Honours BA in Community Sport Development from Glyndwr University and went on to achieve a Distinction in MA Sports Development Management from Liverpool John Moores Univerity. Nont joined Active Cheshire as a volunteer in May 2013 and went on to secure his full-time position in September in 2013. Having served in a number of positions, Nont secured promotion to his current role where he proudly leads the Strategic Projects Team and is part of the Leadership Team. Nont is passionate about creating opportunities for the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. He believes physical activity and sport has the power to improve the quality of people’s lives through the benefits and values not only for the individuals but also to the wider communities in which they reside. Nont’s world revolves around his family and friends, passion and interest in football and food! He is the designated chef for the office and can cook up a mean Thai Green Curry - as has done on several occasions!

Joanne Taylor Partnership Officer (Warrington) Active Cheshire

Joanne Taylor

Senior Partnership Manager (Warrington)

Joanne Taylor is the Partnership Officer for Warrington at Active Cheshire. Raised in Widnes, Joanne moved to Warrington in 2001 and now lives with her husband and her two sons. Joanne has 20+ years of experience in both the public and private sector including management positions within a large Central Manchester firm of Solicitors and also the National Health Service. Having acquired an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration, Joanne proceeded to acquire an ILEX qualification distance learning whilst working full time and then become a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. After 10 years working in law, Joanne had a desire to seek a more rewarding role and became an office manager for mental health community and Home Treatment Teams within the NHS in Warrington, acquiring an NVQ level 5 Diploma in Management and then obtaining her PRINCE 2 qualification in Project Management. Joanne project supported a Trust wide organisational restructure and supported the Business Development team with bids and the mobilising/implementation of new services won at tender. Joanne was also project support for a newly formed Clinical Network Group, supporting several clinical network sector subgroups including physical activity and working on clinical pathways. An advocate for physical activity, Joanne devised and lead on initiatives to get work colleagues, teams and the workforce more active. Being a local resident of Warrington with a young family and having worked in Warrington for many years, Joanne is passionate about increasing the mental and physical health and well-being of the local people by tackling inactivity locally.

Eloise Glithero Strategy and Insight Officer, Active Cheshire

Strategy & Insight Officer

Eloise is Active Cheshire’s Strategy and Insight officer, with a specialist focus on the Activators pillar of Cheshire and Warrington’s blueprint to tackle physical inactivity. She was born in Birmingham and lived there for 18 years before moving to Chester in 2011 to study Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Chester. Eloise continued on at Chester gaining a distinction in a Master of Science in Sociology of Sport and Exercise, providing her with insightful knowledge into the sport, exercise and physical activity world. From an academic background, Eloise has valuable experience in sport and physical activity, with a sociological perspective of physical activity behaviours. This provides a beneficial outlook to understanding the market and the people Active Cheshire serve. Eloise spent three years lecturing part time within Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Chester, before moving on to work on the frontline within Active Cheshire as Partnership Officer for Cheshire West and Chester. This has empowered Eloise to better understand how to educate, particularly where Activators is all about educating others about positive physical activity behaviours. Eloise is an advocate and keen participant in physical activity, spending evenings in the gym, and weekends exploring Cheshire’s natural facilities. As an animal lover, Eloise enjoys nothing more than spending time with her pets – her cat, Lola, and bearded dragon, Ludo. One of her greatest achievements is summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest freestanding mountain, in 2012 while raising money for Childreach International. Day to day, you will find her continuously checking her Fitbit app to see if she has reached her daily step goal!

Eleanor Hanrahan Active Cheshire

Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Eleanor Hanrahan holds responsibility for Executive Support within Active Cheshire, providing first class support to the Chief Executive and Board of Directors around Business Administration and Governance. Born and raised in Cheshire, Eleanor has moved to Northwich with her partner recently. She has got 5+ years of experience in the public and private sector, having worked in a fast-paced Customer Service environment as well as her experience in Wellbeing/Sports Therapy. Eleanor has a passion for travelling and aims to explore different parts of the world at least twice a year. Eleanor was educated at South Cheshire College, where she studied for two years becoming fully trained in all aspects of Massage and Therapy. She has helped sculpt a family run business which is now flourishing and has brought her customer engagement expertise to Active Cheshire. Eleanor is very keen to delight customers, ensuring that every experience is an exceptional one. Eleanor is the first point of call for enquiries relating to our Chief Executive or Chair.

Fraser Edwards-Cleaves Active Cheshire

Business Development Officer

Fraser is the Business Development Officer for Active Cheshire. Focusing on expanding the companies relationships and developing new opportunities within the region of Cheshire & Warrington in order to help embed physical activity into everyone’s daily life. Growing up in Nottingham, Fraser then moved to study War, Peace and International Relations at the University of Reading. Shortly after Fraser moved to London and worked as a Property Consultant for two years before joining the team. Fraser’s experience in networking and in a forward-facing customer service role means that he possess the capabilities in order to build further relationships across the Cheshire & Warrington region to promote Active Cheshire’s message. Fraser made the decision to move into the health and welling sector in order to use his skills and expertise to make a positive difference in the community he has now joined. Outside of work, Fraser is a keen martial arts fan having practiced the sport for many years and travelled to China to study in an academy. Fraser is also an avid Swansea City FC fan, regularly spending his weekends watching the games. Being an animal lover, his favourite place in Cheshire & Warrington is Chester Zoo.

Dr Declan Ryan PhD

Strategic Lead Active Design

Declan Ryan is the Strategic Lead for Active Design within Active Cheshire. Born and raised in the Peak District, Declan made the move to Crewe in 2011 to study Exercise and Sports Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. Having been raised in a National Park, Declan is a keen enthusiast of preserving the green landscape and embracing the natural surroundings. Declan has valuable experience in physical activity physiology and research methods, having completed his PhD in 2018, which investigated the effects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on the cardiovascular profile of Cheshire's older adults. Using his expertise, he is now helping to implement health improving physical activity into the daily lives of the public through the design of our landscape. Through his experiences as a professional sportsperson and as a scientific researcher, Declan believes that physical activity can be the master plan to improving the social-economic, health, and mental well-being status of the residents within the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. Expanding on his three years of research in Cheshire, Declan wants to continue his passion for improving the lives of others by co-creating a vibrant Cheshire and Warrington sub-region that makes physical activity accessible for everyone.

David Acton

Partnership Officer (East)

David Acton is the Cheshire East Partnership Officer for Active Cheshire, the lead body for physical activity and sport in the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. Born in Trafford, David moved to Macclesfield and lives with his fiance, also referred to as his teammate and inspiration. David has extensive experience working in the private healthcare sector delivering wellbeing solutions into the workplace, supporting businesses to improve the overall wellbeing of their workforce and improving employee engagement. He has developed an extensive network within the corporate wellbeing and healthcare benefits sector. A keen sportsman, David competed extensively as a youth in the Javelin and Shotput with local and regional success, an achievement he attributes to the resources and advice available to him through the local government, local sports establishments and the local community. Building on his success and experiences, David is passionate about improving physical activity and wellbeing within all aspects of society and believes in the capabilities of all people.
