We are driven and challenged to achieve the collective ambitions of the region, through scrutiny and advocacy by an experienced board of Trustees, Patrons and Ambassadors who bring a diverse range of skills and expertise to the organisation.
Anne Boyd FRSA, FRSPH
Anne is the award-winning Chief Executive of Active Cheshire; the lead body for physical activity and sport in the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. She is born and bred in Cheshire where she lives with her 3 grown-up children. She has 20+ years of experience spanning public, private and voluntary sectors having held leadership positions within Sport England, NWDA, Local Government and her own award-winning business, which secured her a seat on a Prime-Ministerial think tank. Anne is a passionate contributor to her home county, donating her time to the British Red Cross as Vice-President , to Cheshire and Warrington LEP as a member of the Oversight and Scrutiny Committee and to the West Cheshire Poverty Truth Commission as a Commissioner. She is also a member of the Cheshire & Merseyside STP Clinical Advisory Group seeking to transform health services. Anne is extremely well networked as an active member of the Global Leaders Alumni and of HEPA Europe. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Royal Society of Public Health and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Anne is passionate about tackling inequality and has a particular interest in the improvement of mental health services. She is a supporter of women in business.
Senior Partnership Manager (Deputy CEO)
Adam is responsible for leading our area based teams, working hard to make a difference to physical inactivity through our Active Kids and Active Workplace services. In addition, Adam works with strategic partners across the footprint of Cheshire and Warrington, specifically our Local Authority partners, in support of our collective ambition to embed physical activity into all aspects of everyday life. Having worked in the sector for almost a decade, Adam brings a wealth of experience to the organisation, and has led on a number of high profile initiatives and projects both organisationally, and with partners. As a resident of Cheshire, Adam is passionate about the difference we and our partners can make through the integration of small daily activity habits. He even welcomed Teddy the dog to his family to help him with his daily walking routine!
Strategic Lead Mental Health
Nont is the Strategic Lead for Mental Health at Active Cheshire. He brings a wealth of experience in market, consumer and social research which places him to approach the issue of inactivity through understanding of human behaviours and societal and cultural trends. Nont led on several high profile research which led to publication and showcasing at national and international levels of Academia. Nont brings 5+ years of experience of working within the industry. As well as his knowledge and experience, Nont brings with him an abundance of energy, drive and enthusiasm. Born and raised in Thailand, Nont moved to the U.K. when he was 15 to join Liverpool F.C. Academy. Nont’s time at Liverpool was cut short due to a bad injury but he retained his passion and interest in physical activity and sport. Nont joined Active Cheshire as a volunteer in May 2013 and went on to secure his full-time position in September in 2013. Nont is passionate about creating opportunities for the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Nont’s world revolves around his family and friends, passion and interest in football and food! He is the designated chef for the office and can cook up a mean Thai Green Curry - as has done on several occasions!
Partnership Officer (Cheshire West)
Sarah is responsible for driving forwards the work in Cheshire West and Chester, as Partnership Officer. With an extensive background immersed in the voluntary sector, Sarah has over 14 years’ experience of supporting and developing opportunities for local residents. Born and bred in Ellesmere Port, Sarah has an invested interest in ensuring the residents of Cheshire West and Chester are well served and looked after. Sarah’s role primarily is to support local organisations to make a difference to physical inactivity through our Active Kids and Active Workplace services. Sarah is also responsible for maintaining our relationship with our Local Authority partners and supporting a whole host of stakeholders to embed physical activity into all aspects of everyday life. Sarah is an avid volunteer during her time outside of work and supports a variety of initiatives encouraging people to get active, understanding the challenges they face in taking that step to be active. Sarah is passionate about sport and physical activity and prides herself on supporting others to experience and try new things. She has a particular interest in disability sport and ensuring activities are inclusive and available to everyone. Sarah’s proudest achievements are her two young boys who keep her active every day and she loves being a Mum!
Senior Partnership Manager (Warrington)
Joanne Taylor is the Senior Partnership Manager for Warrington at Active Cheshire. Joanne has 25+ years of experience in both the public and private sector including management positions within a large Central Manchester firm of Solicitors and also the NHS. Having acquired an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration, Joanne acquire an ILEX and then become a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. After 10 years working in law, Joanne had a desire to seek a more rewarding role and became an office manager for mental health community Teams within the NHS in Warrington, acquiring an NVQ level 5 Diploma in Management and then obtaining her PRINCE 2 qualification in Project Management. Joanne project supported a Trust wide organisational restructure and supported the Business Development team with bids and the mobilising/implementation of new services won at tender. Joanne was also project support for a newly formed Clinical Network Group, supporting several clinical network sector subgroups including physical activity and working on clinical pathways. An advocate for physical activity, Joanne devised and lead on initiatives to get colleagues and the workforce more active. Being a local resident of Warrington with a young family, Joanne is passionate about increasing the mental and physical health and well-being of the local people.
Strategy & Insight Officer
Eloise is Active Cheshire’s Strategy and Insight Officer, driving the success of Cheshire and Warrington’s Blueprint to Tackle Physical Activity. She was born in Birmingham and lived there before moving to Chester in 2011 to study Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Chester. Eloise continued on at Chester gaining a distinction in a Master of Science in Sociology of Sport and Exercise, providing insightful knowledge into sport, exercise and physical activity. Eloise has valuable experience in sport and physical activity, with a sociological perspective of physical activity behaviours providing a beneficial outlook to understanding the people Active Cheshire serve. Eloise spent three years lecturing within Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Chester, before moving to work on the frontline with Active Cheshire as Partnership Officer for Cheshire West and Chester. Eloise is an advocate and keen participant in physical activity. As an animal lover, Eloise enjoys nothing more than spending time with her pets. One of her greatest achievements is summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the world’s highest freestanding mountain, in 2012 while raising money for Childreach International.
Organisational Development Officer
Mark is the Organisational Development Officer for Active Cheshire, a role that encompasses everything from day to day finances, IT and Comms management, payroll, policies and procedures, and legal obligations as a registered charity and limited company. The role also looks at ways the organisation can continually make improvements and efficiencies. Born in Salford, Mark took part in the Young Enterprise Scheme while at school where he first got a taste of business administration. While at college he tried his luck on the Manchester music scene, promoting the Reggae band Edward The Second at the famous Boardwalk, the location of Oasis’ first live performance in August 1991. This ultimately led him to playing in his own band at venues across Manchester, and working for Manchester City Council’s events team, working on visitor events, such as an outdoor ice-rink, Christmas Light’s Switch Ons and Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony. Mark’s gained some great experience over his career working in town centre management, market town regeneration and business start-up support. He has also spent 3 years self-employed working for a variety of business and private clients. Outside of work Mark plays the drums in a band, as well as building and managing the band’s website.
Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Eleanor is the Marketing Coordinator for Active Cheshire. Eleanor is in charge of the social media accounts and collateral representing Active Cheshire. Eleanor also assists Fraser in events coordination for Active Cheshire and driving forward the brand identity. Eleanor is very keen to delight customers, ensuring that every experience is an exceptional one. Before Eleanor joined Active Cheshire, she gained 4+ years of experience in the private sector, having worked in a fast-paced Customer Service environment as well as her experience in Wellbeing/Sports Therapy. Eleanor is no fan of sports, but enjoys physical activity going to the gym at least 3 times a week. She loves to travel outside of the UK, from trying new foods and gaining different experiences, learning different cultures is a huge interest. Her favourite place in the world was Venice in Italy, known as “the floating city” it has no roads - just canals. Eleanor loves to listen to music, and will be going to her first festival in Leeds this year.
Sales & Marketing Manager
Fraser is the Sales & Marketing Manager for Active Cheshire. Fraser oversees the marketing department, managing all marketing for the organisation and activities within the marketing department. Assisted by Eleanor, together they head up marketing and events coordination for Active Cheshire and drive forward the brand identity and promotional campaigns. Creating campaigns to promote Active Cheshire’s message and overall strategy of embedding physical activity into all aspects of everyday life by 2040 in Cheshire and Warrington. As a team they liaise with external suppliers of marketing collateral and design. Growing up in Nottingham, Fraser moved to Reading to study War, Peace and International Relations BA at the University of Reading. Shortly after Fraser moved to London and worked as a Property Consultant for two years before joining the Active Cheshire team. Outside of work, Fraser is a keen martial arts fan having practiced the sport for many years and travelled to China to study in an academy. Fraser is also an avid Swansea City FC fan, regularly spending his weekends watching the games. Being an animal lover, his favourite place in Cheshire & Warrington is Chester Zoo.
Dr Declan Ryan PhD
Strategic Lead Active Design
Declan Ryan is the Strategic Lead for Active Design within Active Cheshire. Born and raised in the Peak District, Declan made the move to Crewe in 2011 to study Exercise and Sports Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. Having been raised in a National Park, Declan is a keen enthusiast of preserving the green landscape and embracing the natural surroundings. Declan has valuable experience in physical activity physiology and research methods, having completed his PhD in 2018, which investigated the effects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on the cardiovascular profile of Cheshire's older adults. Using his expertise, he is now helping to implement health improving physical activity into the daily lives of the public through the design of our landscape. Through his experiences as a professional sportsperson and as a scientific researcher, Declan believes that physical activity can be the master plan to improving the social-economic, health, and mental well-being status of the residents within the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. Expanding on his three years of research in Cheshire, Declan wants to continue his passion for improving the lives of others by co-creating a vibrant Cheshire and Warrington sub-region that makes physical activity accessible for everyone.
Partnership Officer (Cheshire East)
David Acton is the Cheshire East Partnership Officer for Active Cheshire, the lead body for physical activity and sport in the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. Born in Trafford, David moved to Macclesfield and lives with his fiance, also referred to as his teammate and inspiration. David has extensive experience working in the private healthcare sector delivering wellbeing solutions into the workplace, supporting businesses to improve the overall wellbeing of their workforce and improving employee engagement. He has developed an extensive network within the corporate wellbeing and healthcare benefits sector. A keen sportsman, David competed extensively as a youth in the Javelin and Shotput with local and regional success, an achievement he attributes to the resources and advice available to him through the local government, local sports establishments and the local community. Building on his success and experiences, David is passionate about improving physical activity and wellbeing within all aspects of society and believes in the capabilities of all people.
Partnership Officer (Cheshire West)
Dan is a Partnership Officer for Cheshire West and Chester working closely with Sarah Tilling and partners in the region. Born and raised in Birmingham, Dan moved to Nantwich with his partner nearly 2 years ago and has fallen in love with his new home county. Dan has a breadth of experience working in both the public and private sector. This includes job roles within the NHS working in laboratories and providing hands on care to patients across a range of specialities in operating theatres and ward based environments. More recently, Dan has developed his skills in a lead role for an occupational health provider; delivering health surveillance and promotion services to a range of diverse companies across many industries throughout Cheshire. Dan is passionate about helping people and having a positive impact on their lives; he loves to connect with people of all walks of life. In his personal life he keeps active at every opportunity from regular outdoor activities to gym based exercise. He has a huge amount of work satisfaction as he is able to engage with people in a job role that encompasses the way he chooses to live in his personal life. He is passionate about improving physical activity and wellbeing in the local area!
Rachael is Active Cheshire’s Executive Support primarily supporting the CEO Anne Boyd but also supports both the board and the rest of the team at Active Cheshire. Before joining the Active Cheshire, team Rachael worked at Barclays and AstraZeneca as a personal assistant supporting the Head of EMEA distribution and the director of HR as well as again supporting the larger team helping with travel and meeting requests. Rachael has 3 children, 1 boy and 2 girls who have a better social life than herself, so her weekends normally consist of attending various children’s parties. When she does get to socialise, she enjoys eating out at various restaurants and drinking cocktails (a favourite is an espresso martini). Before having children, Rachael got to travel quite a bit and was lucky enough to visit the Maldives twice, Malaysia, India, Tunisia, Malta, New York and Rome. All are places she would love to visit again as well as some point hoping to travel to China and Japan. Before starting her career, Rachael completed a BTEC ND in Fashion Design, completed an A Level in English then completed 2 NVQ’s and an ECDL while working. She is currently half way through completing a degree through the Open University.
