School Games

The School Games are designed to boost participation in competitive sport for young people of all abilities and backgrounds, by significantly enhancing the year round calendar of competitive school sport. The Games will positively impact young people’s school sport and PE experience and add significant value to the whole school agenda.

The Games also provide quality opportunities for future leaders, reporters, commentators, announcers, photographers, musicians and artists to showcase their talent and develop their skills in a live event environment.

Active Cheshire is mandated to deliver the Cheshire and Warrington Level 3 School Games Festivals and we work closely with School Games Organisers, teachers and volunteers to do this. The Games are financed through Lottery and Government funding, with Sainsbury’s as the headline sponsor.

Sporting Champions

The Sport England Sporting Champions initiative has enabled athlete role models to inspire and raise the aspirations of over 15,000 young people in 90 visits to the Sainsbury’s School Games nationally in 2014. The programme is designed to inspire and motivate young people and young adults by bringing them face-to-face with elite world-class athletes.
