Case study: Cheshire and Warrington Primary PE and School Sport Exhibition

The exhibition room at the Cheshire and Warrington Primary PE and School Sport Exhibition

Active Cheshire’s first Cheshire and Warrington Primary PE and School Sport event took place in July 2014 at the Hartford Campus of Mid Cheshire College.

This unique event was aimed at supporting primary schools to maximise the impact of Primary Sport Premium and ensuring schools are aware of the range of opportunities, providers, and partnerships that can be invested in to benefit the pupils and school.

The event was attended by a range of delegates from local primary schools including Head Teachers, Assistant Head Teachers, PE Leads and Coordinators, School Business Managers and Parents.

The afternoon comprised two elements - the Provider Exhibition and Sport Premium clinic sessions.

Provider exhibition

Opportunities were provided for delegates to meet and sample a wide range of operators and providers, hear first hand what they could offer the school, and discuss with other local schools. The event was attended by over 30 enthused exhibitors which gave the event a real vibrant feeling and really bought it to life.

Primary Sport Premium Workshop Sessions

Three 30 minute workshop sessions, covering key topics and issues, were delivered by keynote speakers / experts, giving schools the opportunity to ask questions, engage in small group discussions, and learn from others about their approaches to investing the primary sport premium. The workshops included:

  • ‘Driving Sustainable Change in PE and School Sport’ by Youth Sport Trust
  • ‘The Process of Ofsted Inspection in relation to Primary Sport Premium by Winnington Park Primary School and Chris Story (Governor of School)
  • Sainsbury’s School Games: Competitive Sport for All by Cheshire and Warrington School Sport Alliance / School Games Organisers

Donations

Places were offered free of charge for both schools and providers to attend. However, this was not a free event and the costs were covered by Active Cheshire with support from our partners. We would like to thank all the donors for their contributions.

Future events

The feedback from the event has been extremely positive. One teacher said: “The event was extremely useful and informative, especially the Ofsted Inspection workshop was fantastic and all local schools should have attended”
