Our Strategic Lead for the education sector is Duncan Setterington. He is supported by Education and Insight Officer Nont Iamkamphaeng and together, they are making a real impact on engaging the sector in sport and physical and activity.

We feel that it is important that young people are encouraged to get active in their formative years and are delighted that PE now forms an official part of the curriculum . There are more more than 350 schools, seven colleges and two universities in the county and nationally, more that 60% of all sporting assets are within school facilities . We work with them to ensure that they are both used for pupils and optimised for wider community use.

Our work within the sector spans each educational phase from Primary through to Higher Education and represents an exciting opportunity to positively impact participation in Cheshire and Warrington by engaging young people with the aim of developing a physical activity habit for life.

Our work is varied and aims to enhance the work of numerous partners providing opportunities for young people to participate in sport and physical activity in the sub-region. Examples of some of the work we are involved in include:

  • Establishing the Cheshire and Warrington PE and School Sport Strategic Board
  • Working with schools to maximise use of existing sports facilities
  • Providing advice and guidance on developing school sport provision
  • Bridging the gap between school and community sport to provide opportunities for more young people
  • Consultancy and research support to understand the barriers and opportunities for young people in Cheshire and Warrington
