Poulton Park Golf Club in Warrington has become the latest club to introduce the 9-hole national campaign, Golf Express. The shortened version of the game is designed to allow busy people to play the game more often and is described by Olympic Golfer and England Golf ambassador, Justin Rose as "A great way to play all the game in half the time".
It takes around two hours to complete a full game, during which, players walk two to three miles or over 5,000 steps and burn 450 calories. It is also compatible with the Rules of Golf and the handicap system.
According to Alison Lysons, England Golf County Development Officer for Cheshire, "Time constraints are a common reason why people don't play golf". She goes on to say that Golf Express is delighted to help people fit the game into their busy lifestyles as it still brings many health and social benefits.
The R&A has launched a 9-hole championship for amateurs and Scottish Golf is also promoting the shorter format. Clubs across the country are now promoting 9-hole green fees and offers to players on the website GolfExpress9.org.
